This page explains how articles, rate tables and calculators on HST in Canada are researched, checked and kept up to date.
Sources we rely on
We start from official sources and link to them in each article:
- The Canada Revenue Agency for GST/HST: guides, GST/HST memoranda, info sheets and forms
- Revenu Québec for the Québec sales tax (QST)
- Provincial finance ministries for PST in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba (RST)
Other websites can help us find a topic, but a rate, threshold or rule goes into an article only if we can confirm it in an official source.
Fact-checking
Before an article is published, every rate, threshold, deadline, dollar amount and form name in it is checked against the official source. The line under the article title says which source it was checked against. Where the official guidance doesn’t settle a question, we say so rather than guess.
Updates
The date at the top of each article is the date it was last updated. We recheck articles when a rate, threshold, deadline or form changes, for example after a federal or provincial budget, and when the CRA or Revenu Québec updates its guidance.
Corrections
If you think something is wrong, email [email protected] with the page address and, if you can, the source that shows the correct information. We check every report against the official source. If the article is wrong, we fix it and update its date.
Bylines
Articles are published under the name HST in Canada, not individual authors. We don’t present our articles as advice from an accountant or tax professional. They are general information. See the disclaimer.
Independence and partner links
Some articles link to invoicing or accounting software through partner links, and we may earn a commission if you sign up. It doesn’t decide which tools we list or what we say about them. Partner links are marked as sponsored, and an article’s tax information is written and checked the same way whether or not it has partner links.
